Professor Sung-Min Rhee of Kyung Hee University Hospital’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery announced on the 15th that he received the Basic Science Award at the 30th Spring Conference of the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society held at the Seoul SC Convention Center on March 31.

This award is given to the author of the most outstanding paper published in the past year, and Professor Rhee won the award for his paper titled "Retracted Rotator Cuff Repairs Heal With Disorganized Fibrogenesis Without Affecting Biomechanical Properties: A Comparative Animal Model Study."

Professor Rhee commented, "Through this research, we confirmed that even when a torn rotator cuff tendon is successfully repaired, it heals insecurely with fibrous tissue different from the original tendon. This study highlights the need for the development of treatments that can minimize fibrous tissue while promoting stronger healing during tendon repair."

In addition, Professor Rhee, who has authored and co-authored more than 70 SCI-level papers, has been dedicated to various research projects and has received the Young Medical Scientist Award. He recently founded a startup, Itphy, which provides digital healthcare services for musculoskeletal diseases, leading the fusion of medicine and digital technology.
