Kyung Hee University Hospital announced on the 15th that Professor Rhee Sung-min of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery received the Academic Award in the Basic Science category at the 30th Spring Congress of the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society, held at the Seoul SC Convention Center on March 31st.

This award is presented to the researcher who has published the most outstanding paper in the past year. Professor Rhee received the award for his paper titled "Retracted Rotator Cuff Repairs Heal With Disorganized Fibrogenesis Without Affecting Biomechanical Properties: A Comparative Animal Model Study."

Professor Rhee Sung-min stated, "Through this research, we confirmed that even if a torn rotator cuff tendon is successfully sutured, it heals incompletely with fibrous tissue different from the existing tendon." He added, "This is a significant research result suggesting the need to develop a therapeutic agent that can minimize fibrous tissue and promote stronger healing during future tendon sutures."

Meanwhile, Professor Rhee has previously won the Young Medical Scientist Award for devoting himself to various research as a lead or co-author of over 70 SCI-level papers. Recently, he founded 'It-P', a startup providing digital healthcare services related to musculoskeletal diseases, leading the convergence of medicine and digital technology.
